In the above pictures you can see I used 4"x4" posts for the corners and 2"x12" for the cross pieces. I joined the cross pieces to the post by mortise and tenon joints. Poly urethane glue or tight bond III is the glue of choice. To make the sunburst rim I resawed the cedar to .150" thick so that I could bend them easy. Then glue on each strip and covered then with wax paper so they don't stick to the half circle form. I used quick grip clamps to clamp them to the form.
